Chickenpox at the Verdeja-Bellemans Family

Chicken Pox [Yil's turn]
Originally uploaded by roverdeja.

"... and in two weeks from now, her brother will get them too", prophesied the pediatrician when Lía visited her exactly two weeks ago.

For Lía, at least, it was a mild case (don't try to convince her of that after what she went through the first two days). She had few spots and only one day of pure, real agony. Yil was envious regardless what she what , of course, because Lía escaped school and he still had to go.

Now he is escaping school... but thanking all his gods he would never get this one again.

His head feels like a lunar surface covered by a fake rain forest. The rash, that became thin-walled blisters filled with clear fluid, has taken over Yil's oblong body. We suffer his pain, but not as much as he does his own... but, what would life be without chickenpox?

HOW DID CHICKENPOX GET ITS NAME?
Believe or not, chickenpox has nothing to do with chickens. Rather, the red spots were once thought to look like chickpeas on the skin. Others believe the disease is known as chickenpox because a long time ago in England, children were called "chickens", much like we use the word "kids" today.

Ps. Click on the picture to check the one of Lía at the school showing her friends she didn't have the pox anymore. That she was safe now! Now I gotta go, I'm feeling itchy! Mom, are you sure I got the pox?
